Saint Louis
Symphony
Orchestra

When the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra opened in the 2005-2006 season last September, it was the first with new Music Director and Conductor, David Robertson. There was a lot of buzz about Mr. Robertson, who, at 46, brought a new energy and dimension to the Symphony. He's a really charismatic guy and a dynamic performer, and it's easy to see why people were so excited about him being in St. Louis.

As always, the challenge with the Symphony is to expand its audience. But now with the arrival of David Robertson, we felt like we had a real opportunity to connect with a "younger" demographic group - 40 and 50-year olds - and get them to come out and see that it's not going to be the same old Symphony playing (Wow, someone our age is actually conducting!). This is an audience that grew up listening to The Beatles and Hendrix and going to see The Stones and Kiss, so we figured if we talked to them in a classic rock vernacular we could get their attention. To do that, we took familiar cues from the rock concert experience and juxtaposed them with David Robertson and the Symphony to demonstrate that it really will be different in Powell Hall now. Seriously, you've got to see this guy.
